Still Life / Landscapes

Still life drawings are great for learning the fundamentals of composition and realistic renderings. Most of the pieces in this series were completed during art school and were my personal reflection of my college education and assignments that helped kick off my career.

Bottles and Bones $150 \| $15 print \| oil paint \| 18x24in I painted this still life back in college, experimenting with oil paints. I wanted to find an interesting composition of the bottles and bones, playing up the shadows, lighting, and reflections throughout. We were married under the Mount Princeton Range at the Barn at Sunset Ranch. This drawing commemorates our love. I experimented with acrylic paint layered with oil pastel to create the high contrast and heavily saturated look.

Some will say it's just fabric, but I think the ominous feeling created is one that suggests something a little darker. I wanted to show off the variety and complexity of them since it's often overlooked. I think collaging them together in one spot powerfully represents the beauty of the feathers.
